Ethical Issues
The fetal sex determination test is not a test for selecting the child’s gender and is totally different from the technique designated as preimplantation diagnostic for child gender selection before the embryo is implanted in the mother’s uterus (womb). This test does not allow gender selection, it only provides information (such as in an ultrasound scan, only earlier) on the gender of the future child.
Genelab considers ethically unacceptable the selection of gender for any non medical purposes and is therefore totally against its use in these terms.
Any pregnant woman can take this test, which only requires collection of a small blood sample. There are no risks either for the pregnant woman or for the child, because this is a non-invasive and completely harmless test.
